I can hear you better this way
Origin: Mosman. Late 20th century, early 21st century?

Refusing to wear her ‘listening plugs’ (hearing aids), Aunty Esther instead engineered herself these. She wore them everyday, claiming to take them off only for showers, the six o’clock news and her Tuesday evening martial arts classes. I have added the nose for the purpose of display. It has been modelled from that photograph of Aunty Esther in the garage, wearing her green and orange cardigan.

Exhibited in Headgear 4, MILS Gallery, Sydney, Australia. 25 July – 10 August 2014.

I can hear you better this way, date unknown, glasses, enamel paint, electric tape, plastic mesh, rocks, acrylic paint, wire, hair, wood, plasticine, 20 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm.
